END CORPORAL PUNISHMENT

Call for solidarity for Bill C-273 by MP Peter Julian to hashtag#EndCorporalPunishment—which is still legal in (so-called) Canada. Section 43 of the Criminal Code, which permits physical punishment of children in Canada was identified by Truth and Reconciliation Commission as its sixth call to action. We know that corporal punishment is one of the multiple ways that policing/carcerality/punitive measures operates within schooling and educational spaces. The Bill is currently in the House of Commons for the third reading and moving to vote prior to moving to the Senate.

Write to your MP to support the repeal of section 43 of the criminal code and answer call-to-action 6 by the Truth & Reconciliation Commission
