ABOUT US

Policing-Free Schools (Canada) is a community-based organization that is dedicated to catalyzing systemic changes and a paradigm shift for the co-creation of transformative, healthy, equitable, life-affirming, liberatory, healing-centred and policing-free educational spaces.

One of the ways we do this is by offering support to community organizers, educators, school boards, and post-secondary institutions in ending the practice of police and policing in school, college and university campus programs as an initial and necessary step along the continuum towards the end of all policing and carceral infrastructures, practices, policies, logics and culture, and the co-creation of educational spaces where all can learn and thrive.

Policing-Free Schools convenes and is the organizational lead for the National Campaign for a Policing-Free Schools Canada which includes organizations across the country, as well as the Provincial Campaign for a Policing-Free Schools Ontario. We are currently working alongside #PolicingFreeSchoolsCA partners for the expansion of regional area campaigns across the country.

Operating across Turtle Island and based out of Tkaronto (Toronto, Canada), we work on these systemic issues in solidarity with our national partners across Canada and international partners in the United States and the United Kingdom. We make part of the growing global movement organizing for police and policing-free school futures.

Founded in 2022 by community educator and organizer Andrea Vásquez Jiménez who for years has been deeply involved in struggles to remove police from educational spaces in Tkaronto, across Turtle Island and internationally. She now serves as Director and Principal Consultant of the organization.
